Sneaker lovers across Colorado could be in for a big surprise as one of the largest sneaker stores in the world announced upcoming mall location closings. Will Colorado be affected?

Large Sneaker Retail Company To Close 400 Locations Permanently

From the outside looking in, the sneaker industry appears to be bigger than ever. I'd imagine we all know at least one person, if it's not you, that is massively addicted to sneakers. I'm talking about buying two pairs of the latest Jordans, or other celebrity-inspired sneakers, so they can wear one, and keep one put away, or on display.

I've got friends who own a pair of sneakers in just about every color so they can always coordinate their kicks with their outfits. I'm not gonna say I don't at least try not to clash my shoe colors with what I'm wearing, but I'm not a sneaker fiend by any stretch. Apparently, the assumption of sneaker companies printing money these days is incorrect, as one of the world's largest sneaker retail companies is set to close about 400 locations in the not-so-distant future.

Foot Locker To Close Over 400 Stores In Shopping Malls

Yup, the shoe retail giant, Foot Locker, announced its plans to close roughly 400 of its less-performing stores in the next three years. Their new "Lace Up Plan" appears to shift its focus a bit to newer concept stores. There are about 1,300 Foot Locker locations across the US with about 10 of those locations being in Colorado.

Foot Locker also announced it plans on closing down about 125 lower-performing Champs Sports stores as well by the end of 2023. No official word about which Colorado locations, if any, will be affected, but Colorado hasn't escaped any of the recent national closings so I'd imagine we see at least one local location shut its doors for good. We will update this article as we receive more information. Until then, get your sneakers easily while you can, because it seems the brick-and-mortar sneaker stores will become few and farther between as these closings begin.
