What is Colorado's Black Canyon of the Gunnison?
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a massive canyon located in western Colorado near the town of Montrose.
The canyon is known for its sheer cliffs and spectacular views, and gets its name due to the lack of sunshine it gets which is due to the aforementioned sheerness of its canyon walls.
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison was formed partially by the river of the same name that has been carving the walls for many years. However, other prehistoric geological events also had to take place in a sort of perfect storm to achieve the Black Canyon that we know today.
While visiting the National Park in person is unforgettable, to say the least, it's impossible to see the whole thing, and from different angles.
