A recent study found the top 10 cities with the best summer temperatures and the good news is two of them, Denver and Salt Lake City are within a few hours driving distance from Grand Junction.The study conducted by Bert Sperling, owner of bestplaces.net and published in USA Today uses a formula that combines daily high temperatures, dew point and nighttime low temperatures. The study used data from the last 30 years in the months of June and July to formulate the Sperling Heat index.

Here are Sperling's Top Ten Cities with the best temperatures.

  2. Portland, Ore.
  3. San Francisco
  4. Denver
  5. San Jose, Calif.
  6. Buffalo
  7. Salt Lake City
  8. Milwaukee
  9. Detroit
  10. Pittsburgh

According to a Forbes report, none of the top 10 rank amongst the most visited cities in the U.S.. So, not only are these cities a great place to avoid the extreme heat, but they can also be great places to avoid an extreme number of tourists.
