Steve King has withdrawn from the Mesa County Sheriff's Race.

According to KKCO, King has released a statement in a letter to the Mesa County  Republican Party, saying he believes for the "greater good for all" it's time to step aside.

King has been the focus of an investigation into time card irregularities and was fired from the Sheriff's department last month.

King was quoted in the Denver Post on July 7 that he was going to stay in the race for Mesa County Sheriff, saying he wanted to focus on "quality of life and safety issues of Mesa County."

Except for some write-in candidates, King was running unopposed in the November election.
