This is one of those things only people in Colorado probably understand, but there really was a logical reason why a raccoon stuck in a tree was left alone to find a way to freedom.

This strange event happened on the campus of the University of Colorado in Boulder.

According to the Daily Camera, one or more students noticed a raccoon had it's head and upper body stuck in the hollow part of a tree.

The police were called and they contacted animal control to rescue the animal. Christopher Reich, the animal control officer who responded to the call, was unable to free the raccoon.

Left with the choice of killing the raccoon, cutting up the tree or waiting to see if the animal could eventually free itself, Reich decided - in true Colorado fashion - he didn't want to harm either the tree or the raccoon, so he opted to wait.

As it turned out, Reich made the right decision and the raccoon freed itself. A student who witnessed the escape said the raccoon crawled out, looked around and ran away.
