Give a structural engineer 2,688 dominoes and ask him to build something. What you get is a 17-foot-tall world record setting freestanding domino tower.

Tom Holmes, the engineer behind this project, said this about the amazing feat.

As engineers, we’re constantly looking for creative solutions to solve problems so it’s great to put my skills to use in a fun task like this. It’s not every day that you can say you’ve built the world’s largest domino tower!”

Holmes admits he tested the possibility of building a domino tower before construction. However, he says rather than using complex calculations to determine if the tower would stand, he used simple physical testing. First, he determined a single domino would hold his weight. Then, he lifted a box of 3,000 dominoes and decided that the domino tower could be built.
And what do you do with a 17 foot domino tower? The video says it all.
