The fact is, Valentine's Day can be an expensive proposition, which is not a problem if money is no issue. But, for a lot of people money is a problem. If that's you, here's how you can do a nice Valentine's Day on a tight budget.

Now, keep in mind this is for people who truly are on a tight budget - and believe me, there are a lot of people out there who are. This isn't simply a road map to the cheapest possible route for Valentine's Day. Guys, if you can afford more, by all means DO more!

If you can't do more, here's a way you could have a really nice Valentine's Day complete with card, flowers, candy, gift, and dinner all for under $35.

    Valentine's Day Card

    $1- $10

One of the most important aspects of Valentine's Day is a card. You have to get her a card, but you don't have to pay out the nose for one. Sure, you can find a really nice card for six or seven dollars, but if money is tight just go to the Dollar Store or Big Lots and get one for a buck - then write something heartfelt and personal on the inside. (You should do this regardless of how much money you spend on the card)

    Flowers

    $5-$75

If your sweetheart likes flowers, get her flowers.  Obviously, getting a fancy bouquet from a florist will run you at least $50 if you have it delivered. A cheaper option is to pick up a bouquet at the store, which you can do for as little as $5 or as much as $15 - and they are lovely. If your gal isn't big on flowers - and believe it or not some women aren't - then skip them.

    Candy

    $1-$25

So what about the candy? Does she even like candy? Is she on a diet or watching her weight? If so, skip it. When it comes to chocolates, you can find heart-shaped boxes that range from $1-$20. If you aren't getting her a gift or flowers, I certainly would not recommend the $1 box. Actually, the $5 boxes look very nice, and, honestly, provide as much chocolate as a girl should need.

    Gifts

    $5-$15

To buy a gift or not is the question. If you are on a tight budget it's probably just best to skip this one, if you can get three of the other things in there. But, if you really want to do a gift, but expensive jewelry is out of the question, there are some other affordable options. Cute and soft stuffed animals are usually a big hit, and you can get one for about ten bucks.

    Dinner

    $10-$40

Dinner is important for Valentine's Day, and it's not about the food. It's about the time you spend together with your significant other. Going out is always nice, especially if you have kids and need to get away. If you don't have kids, or can get rid of them for an evening, consider dining in. Go pick up some carry out, bring it home, light some candles, get out your fine china, and enjoy a nice, quiet romantic evening at home. Don't laugh, but you could get quite a feast of Mexican food from Taco Bell for under $15. Cooking your own dinner is always an option, but it's still gonna cost you. And instead of a bottle of wine, pick up a bottle of sparkling Welch's Grape for $3.
