Better weather forecasts are now possible for Grand Junction and all of Western Colorado.

We should point out that better weather forecasts means more accurate forecasts, not better weather. According to the Durango Herald, the National Weather Service in Grand Junction installed a new operating system this week that should improve their ability to forecast weather in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah.

The new software will reportedly provide better radar and satellite information to meteorologists, consequently improving their ability to prepare warnings and forecasts.

Predicting the weather is an amazing science. I think the weather service and our local meteorologists like Jarrod Robinson and Butch McCain over at KKCO do a phenomenal job of forecasting weather - and I wouldn't want their job.

There are people that blame the weather man when the weather is bad, and people that think he's wrong no matter what he says. I can hear it now. "He said it was only going to be 95 degrees today and it got up to 96. Guess he doesn't know what he's talking about." Or, "he said there was a 60% chance of rain today, and it's raining, so I guess he was wrong. It should have been a 100% chance of rain." The weatherman can't win.

The average person may not notice a change in weather forecasting in western Colorado, but it sounds like the upgrade is going to make things a lot better for those individuals who are responsible for promising dry weather for our tee time, or afternoon showers for our flower gardens.
