Winter Park Ski Train Not Running This Season
COVID-19 sure has ruined a lot of fun things in 2020, and it appears that cancellations and postponements are already happening for certain things in 2021.
Today, Winter Park Ski resort announced that the popular train known as The Winter Park Express will not be running during the 2020-2021 ski season.
The reason given by representatives of the ski resort is that because of close seating, the Winter Park Express would not be able to adhere to the current social distancing requirements in Colorado.
Jen Miller, spokesperson for Winter Park had this to say about the situation:
Amtrak and Winter Park Resort evaluated seating options on the Winter Park Express and agreed that with social distancing requirements, it was not possible to operate the train successfully this season. The resort and Amtrak thank our customers and look forward to welcoming them back again in the 2022 season.
The train runs from Union Station in Denver all the way to the Winter Park Resort, which is located deep in the mountains of Grand County, just north of Eagle and Summit counties.
Last year, the train's services began in January and ran every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until the ski season was forced to shut down early in March because of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Representatives from the resort have also announced that while the train is not in service this season, they plan to make improvements on the service while it is not in operation.
The resort is hoping that the 2022 ski season will look much different and that they will be able to once again transport attendees from Union Station to Winter Park on the train once again.
