This Saturday (June 25), the Grand Junction Police Department and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office will take on the Grand Junction Fire Department and Clifton Fire District in a wicked, no-holds-barred game of Broomball. Who shall rise victorious? Choose your champion!

The Glacier Ice Arena will host this clash of the titans on Saturday, June 25, at 4:15 p.m.

What is Broomball, and how do you play it? According to USA Broomball, a designation which may or may not truly exist, but at the very least has a web page, the rules are as follows:

  • A game has two halves (makes sense… it would be hard to have three “halves”)
  • Goals are only 6′ by 8′, different in size compared to typical Hockey goals
  • Each team consists of 1 Goalie, 3 Forwards, and 2 Defensemen

For the remaining details, simply check out the video above.

Who shall be triumphant this Saturday? How does one rank a Broomball team? Is it possible to handicap the game?

The Glacier Ice Arena is located at 2515 River Road in Grand Junction. Admission is $3 at the door, with all proceeds going to the Community Food Bank.
