Six Week Construction Project Begins Monday on 1st Street in GJ

When you hit an unexpected construction delay in the morning it can completely throw off your whole day. The last thing anyone wants is to be late for work starting their day with stress so when I saw Grand Junction City Information post about a new construction project that is kicking off next Monday (October 12th) I wanted to make sure you have all the details.

You can read the full release by visiting gjcitynews.org or by clicking here. But essentially the project is to replace a sewer line on 1st Street between Pitkin Avenue and Grand Avenue. This sewer line had been in place since the 1920s and was constructed out of clay, and the new line will be a modern PVC line.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is planning to reconstruct a portion of I-70 Business Loop through 1st Street and Grand Avenue and the sewer upgrade needs to take place prior to CDOT beginning their project.

The construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and should be completed in 6 weeks.

There will be access to all businesses in the area, although there might be small amounts of time that the road will need to be closed for a short period of time then quickly reopened.

The Contractor for the project will provide traffic control and on-site flaggers to help with traffic but expect there to be delays for the next six weeks. Lastly, all large trucks, including semis, are being advised to use Riverside Parkway as an alternative route while this project is being completed.

All drivers should be cautious when traveling in the area.
