It's not just every day you get the chance to enjoy free breakfast. In fact, it may happen only once per year.

This year that day is Wednesday, May 8. It's Bike To Work or School Day and there's a free breakfast in it for all riders. It's one piece of Grand Valley Bike Month.

The event is put on my Healthy Mesa County to encourage all of us to live healthier lifestyles, ride more, drive less.

Obviously, it's not practical for everyone to ride a bike to work. Heck, there's plenty of us that don't even own a bike. But, for those that can, this is a great opportunity to break out of your daily routine and do something a little different.

So what's the deal on the free breakfast? Breakfast of some sort is being provided to bike riders at four different locations from 6:30 a.m. - 9: 00 a.m.

St. Mary's and Monument Health will be providing the breakfast at Grand Junction City Hall. Family Health West will do breakfast at the Fruita Civic Center Park. There will also be one at Heritage Park. And the Horizon Drive Business Improvement District and Octopus Coffee will do breakfast at Horizon Drive and Crossroads Blvd.

While we are encouraging folks to get out and ride on Wednesday, those of us that aren't riding need to be aware there's likely to be more bikes on the road than usual, so be extra careful and alert on your commute to and from work.

This is the first of several special events during May for Grand Valley Bike Month so be listening and watching for more details on these upcoming happenings.
