Progress Continues on Grand Junction’s New Dog Park
Here is some news for Grand Junction dog owners.
Grand Junction is getting a brand new dog park and work on the new doggie playground is happening right now.
The new dog park is located at Las Colonias Park and is expected to be open to Grand Valley dogs in the spring of 2021. Grand Junction Parks and Recreation posted a photo of the progress on their Facebook page.
Recently 'dog tuff grass" was planted - to the tune of 40,000 plants. This is a special kind of grass that loves Grand Junction's hot, dry summer climate. It's drought resistant and enjoys the warm temperatures. It's also very resilient, recovering quickly from foot traffic - or in this case - paw traffic.
The new dog park is part of what will be a major recreation area in Grand Junction including a 140-acre city park, 15-acre business park, festival area, ponds, a boat ramp, and a whitewater recreation area.
I realize that not every dog owner is a huge fan of dog parks, but those who are will be extremely happy to have another playtime option for their canine companions. We'll look forward to more progress reports in the weeks and months ahead.
