Colorado Schools COVID Outbreaks: Mesa County One of Largest in State
There are currently 156 COVID outbreaks in Colorado, and one of the biggest ones is in Mesa County.
Mesa County School Leads the State
Last week Grand Mesa Middle School in Mesa County Valley District 51 was listed as having 48 students infected, which was actually the largest number of student infections in the state. Loveland had the second-highest number of student cases with 46.
Back in the second week of September, children and teens made up 26% of the COVID-19 cases in the state with 14 under the age of 18 that had been hospitalized.
Colorado Schools Experiencing Outbreaks
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recently reported a total of 156 outbreaks in Colorado Schools. A school must have more than five cases to be considered an outbreak.
According to a report in the Canon City Daily Record, most of the schools reporting outbreaks had fewer than 10 infected people, but there were 18 schools with outbreaks affecting 30 or more people, including students and staff.
