There are a number of great volunteer opportunities including one that lets you assist local law enforcement by becoming one of the Citizens on Patrol.

The volunteer citizens help local law enforcement in a number of ways including monitoring vehicle speeds in complaint areas, performing vacation home checks, setting up roadblocks, and helping at crime scenes.

Citizens on Patrol (COPs) also participate in a number of assignments and events to help the community become more familiar with local law enforcement in the area.

Volunteers do not need previous law enforcement training but do have to meet a number of requirements including being at least 18 years of age, community minded, able bodied, and have a flexible schedule.

Other requirements include passing a background test, have a clean driving record, good communications skills, and a desire to help to both law enforcement and the public.

The next Citizens on Patrol Academy begins October 4 on Tuesday and Thursday nights with additional training provided on the job. For more information call 970-244-3201.
