The CMU Maverick women have secured the #1 seed in the NCAA South Central Regional. That means they will host the tournament beginning Friday night at Brownson Arena in Grand Junction. The tournament winner will advance to the Elite 8 in San Antonio, Texas.

On Saturday, the Mavericks captured their first RMAC Shootout Championship since 2002 when they knocked off Colorado Christian University 60-47. The Mavericks (28-1) outscored the Cougars 33-20 in the second half after being tied at halftime. CMU's smothering defense forced 17 turnovers, and limited CCU to just 25% shooting for the game. Kelsey Sigl led the Mavericks scoring with 19, while Katrina Selsor and Sharaya Selsor both added 13. All three women were named to the all-tournament team, and Katrina Selsor was named the Shootout Most Valuable Player.

The Mavericks will host 8th seeded Fort Lewis on Friday night at 6:00. This will be the fourth meeting between the teams this season. The Mavericks won both of the regular season match-ups and then defeated the Skyhawks in the semi-finals of the RMAC Shootout. The winner of Friday's game advances to play the Abilene Christian/Texas Permian Basin winner on Saturday. Other matchups in Friday's regional action include the RMAC's  Metro State against St. Mary's (Texas), while Tarleton State plays Midwestern State.
