Welcome to "Winter Part II" on Western Colorado's Grand Mesa on the first day of spring. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office shared this short video so that all can enjoy it. Check out the video at the bottom of this post.

Yesterday, March 19, 2020, the first official day of spring, saw a light snowfall and rain in the Grand Valley. On the Mesa, though, it was a different story. According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, Highway 65 was closed between mile marker 28 and 34 due to high avalanche danger.

Here's a glimpse of how things look on Grand Mesa as of 9:52 this morning, March 20.

It seems a road trip may be in order. Personally, when snow falls on the Mesa, I point the car for Collbran. There's nothing better than taking the dogs for a walk through town and along the trail at Plateau Creek. Afterward, a quick trip back into town for a cup of coffee.

As per the norm in Western Colorado, it's difficult, most times futile, to try and predict the weather. At any given moment, conditions on the Mesa and conditions in the valley can be two profoundly different things.

Thank you to the MCSO for sharing the video below. Please stay in touch with COTrip.org to monitor weather conditions and road closures on the Grand Mesa.
