Grand Junction’s New Rec Center Is Stunning. Take A Look

It has been years in the making, and now Grand Junction’s new Community Recreation Center is just weeks away from welcoming the public. We had a chance to tour the 107,000-square-foot facility before the September opening, and we think you’re going to love this.

Here’s a look at what we found inside, plus what you need to know about admission, memberships, and the free grand-opening weekend.

Grand Junction’s New Rec Center Is Almost Ready: See Inside

Before the doors officially open, we got a chance to see what’s waiting inside Grand Junction’s new Community Recreation Center. From the five St. Mary’s Pools and their water features to the three-court gymnasium and climbing walls, take a closer look at some of the spaces that will soon become part of everyday life in Western Colorado.

What Is the Grand Junction Community Recreation Center?

I’m glad I set aside some time to take one of the free tours at Grand Junction Community Recreation Center. It looks like a ton of fun inside. Find the tour schedule here. The facility is near Matchette Park and the intersection of Patterson Road and 28 & ¼ Road

This project was originally planned at 83,000 square feet, but funding from St. Mary’s Intermountain Health and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs helped expand it. Barker Rinker Seacat led the design, with Chamberlin Architecture, while FCI was selected as construction manager/general contractor. The grand opening is Friday, September 25, 2026.

How Much Does It Cost?

For Grand Junction residents, adult day passes are $9, youth passes are $6, and seniors are $7. Additional options include a twenty-punch pass or an annual membership paid monthly. Mesa County residents and visitors pay higher rates. Find out more about rates here.

How Does the Free Opening Weekend Work?

Grand Junction Parks and Rec will open the Community Recreation Center on Friday, September 25, following an official ribbon-cutting. Admission will be free for Grand Junction residents from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 25, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 26. Pool access will be divided into sessions and offered first-come, first-served. Regular operating hours begin Monday, September 28, at 5:30 a.m.
