
Gorgeous Camping Spots You’ll Love Near Ouray, Colorado
Camping season in Colorado is a chance to get out and enjoy some of the most scenic places in the Rocky Mountains. While many on the Front Range enjoy camping near Rocky Mountain National Park, the Western Slope loves heading south to the San Juan Mountains.
If you are looking for mountain views, trail access, and cozy riverside campsites, we recommend spending some time in the many scenic campgrounds near Ouray, Colorado.

Amphitheater Campground
Ouray, Colorado’s Amphitheater Campground sits at around 9,000 feet above town, not far from a portion of the famous Perimeter Trail. It’s only five minutes outside of town, yet features surrounding cliffs and forests, and overlooks that show off the mountain peaks. Amphitheater Campground is perfect for tent campers and small RVs.
There are no hookups here, just cozy campsites near some of Ouray’s best mountain trails. Reserve sites 11 or 12 for the best mountain views. Sites cost about $28 per night.

Angel Creek Campground
Colorado loves Angel Creek Campground because it is located right next to US 550 (the Million Dollar Highway) in a peaceful mountain wilderness far from the summer crowds. Tent and even truck camping is best at Angel Creek, as it is a smaller campground located near some alpine lakes. Peak weekends tend to be booked far in advance, so don’t wait to make your reservation.
Ouray Riverside Resort (formerly Ouray KOA)
No need to leave all the comforts of home at home, the Ouray Riverside Resort (formerly the KOA) is the place to camp if you are looking for mountain vibes, riverfront tent sites, and RV sites with hookups, and even cabin rentals. Families, RV vacationers, and big city glampers can all get comfortable here with an on-site café, hot tubs, and easy access to town.

Ridgway State Park
Just 15 minutes North of Ouray, you will find Ridgway State Park. The campgrounds offer rugged tent sites to full RV hookups. Ridgway Reservoir offers kayaking, you can fish, and even paddleboard.
This is a great place to consider for larger groups, campers who are more comfortable with a bathhouse (toilets, showers, running water), and pet-friendly campgrounds. The locals love to frequent this campground, so book early to enjoy the dates of your choice.
