Fort Collins Adds New Months-Long Detour to Already Detoured Trilby Road

Spring and summer in Colorado not only mean getting outside for some sun and fun, but getting around construction zones. Fort Collins will have two road projects happening at the same time, on the same road from spring into summer.

What is Happening at Trilby Road and College Avenue in Fort Collins?

The ongoing College and Trilby Improvements project will be going until at least the end of September, 2026. The big $12-14 million project, which began in 2024, is completely rebuilding that intersection with:

• Two left-turn lanes from College Avenue onto Trilby Road.
• Right-turn lanes in ALL directions.
• A wider Trilby Road approach to College Avenue from both the east and west
• Installing a new [permanent] traffic signal at Triangle Drive and College Avenue.

Eventually, according to the City, Trilby Road will be four lanes, all the way from Shields  Avenue to Timberline Road. Before that becomes a reality, the City needs to fix a culvert along Trilby Road, just east of Lemay Avenue.

That relatively small ($2.1 million) project will see a complete closure of Trilby Road between Lemay Avenue and Timberline Road (in both directions) from March 16 until the end of July, into September of 2026.

While the College Avenue/Trilby Road project has people taking Harmony Road and Shields or Lemay to get around, with the culvert project their suggesting taking either Harmony Road or Carpenter Road (Highway 392) to maneuver around.
