I firmly believe that sushi is one of the greatest foods on the face of this earth. It is simple, flavorful, and somehow always leaves you wanting more. Not all sushi bars are created equal. Sure, Colorado has a bunch of great places to get sushi. However, there is only one location that I constantly find myself daydreaming about.

Being in the landlocked state of Colorado presents challenges in getting the freshest seafood possible, but one Colorado sushi restaurant sets the bar higher than just about anywhere else.

This sushi bar has been operating in Denver for more than four decades, and hungry customers from all over come to experience some of the freshest fish you can find in the state.

Sushi Den is one of those restaurants that is a true special-occasion spot for me. It has been a couple of years since my last visit for my birthday. To this day, when I think about sushi, the only thing that pops into my memory is the otoro nigiri, a rich slice of fatty tuna on a small pillow of perfectly seasoned sushi rice at Sushi Den. It was delicious.

Sushi Den was one of the very first restaurants in the United States to fly in fish directly from Japan, and they still carry this tradition on today. A portion of Sushi Den's fish is selected from the Nagahama Fish Market on Japan's southernmost island named Kyushu Island, and arrives in Denver in less than 24 hours after being chosen.

Exotic fish is also selected at Denver's fish market six days a week, and features the freshest seafood from Alaska, Seattle, Boston, Hawaii, Florida, Mexico, Spain, and the Philippines.

The next time you get a craving for sushi and want a truly memorable and high-quality dining experience, you need to do yourself a favor and make the trip to Sushi Den, located at 1487 South Pearl Street in Denver.

After you visit for yourself, you will quickly see why I still dream of Sushi Den whenever the topic is brought up in a conversation.
