What’s Up With All the Loose Dogs in This Northern Colorado Town?

As a dog owner, I keep a close eye on our pup at all times. I check, then I double-check to see if our gates are locked, if our front door is locked, and all of the other things you would need to do to ensure that your dog never gets out of your property.

I follow nearly all of the police stations in Northern Colorado on Facebook. One police department's social media is covered with something rather strange. Dogs. Lots and lots of dogs. Normally, you wouldn't think anything of it, but there are so many postings about dogs on this police station's Facebook page, it kind of makes you wonder what's going on.

It's not like the police station is posting a dog of the week post or anything like that. Sadly, there are numerous posts each month about dogs that are loose and wandering the streets of this small Northern Colorado town.

Since the beginning of 2024, the Milliken Police Department has posted eight notifications of nine dogs on the loose and all of them ended up at the Milliken Police Station. In 2023, the Milliken Police Department posted 30 times that they were able to apprehend 36 dogs in the town limits. I don't know about you, but I feel like that is a lot of loose dogs.

I can totally appreciate what the Milliken Police Department is doing by letting the community know that the dog has been found and not taking them to the humane society. However, I can't help but wonder why so many dogs are getting loose in the town of Milliken. Is this the town where all of the escape artist dogs live?
