After 40 Years Iconic Costco Food Option Makes Change in CO

Costco is one of the best places to shop. They have a little bit of everything, all under one roof. They can do tires, have clothes, appliances, electronics, food, and even offer free samples. The store is one of the most popular for a reason, but another reason that many enjoy shopping at Costco is that before or after you can stop by the food court and get something to eat, so you don't shop hungry, or eat and sit down after doing your shopping. They offer a variety of options like pizza, sandwiches, a chicken bake, ice cream, and the infamous hot dog. From time to time, they offer new items or remove items from the menu, but some items haven't been touched in years. One popular food item at Costco is seeing a change in Colorado, but is it a good or bad change? 

Change to Costco Food Option

When customers visit the Costco food court, the debate is often between pizza and a hot dog. Yes, there are other options, but these are the two most common orders. The hot dog is often more tempting because, for $1.50, you can get a hot dog with a drink, whereas the pizza does not come with a beverage.  The hot dog and drink combo has been this way for over 40 years and has not been touched. It is one of the best food deals around and is one of the reasons customers enjoy getting a bite when they visit the store. The drink allows customers to get lemonade or soda, but that has now changed. The good news is that the combo will remain $1.50, but now it offers more selection and a healthier choice. For the first time in 40 years, a change has been made, and that is that customers can switch out the soda option for a bottle of water.

This may not seem like a big deal to many, but since there hasn't been a change in decades to this combo, it does show that Costco is willing to adjust and offer customers something more, and is listening to their customers' feedback as well. Last year, Costco decided to change from Pepsi to Coca-Cola in the food court, which was met with mixed reviews. Soda sales nationwide have gone down as many are looking to be healthier, which is why the choice to offer a bottle of water is a good decision by Costco. From a business perspective, this is a good choice as well, as a soda cup costs 79 cents and customers can get refills, compared to a bottle of water that costs 25 cents and can't be refilled. This will save the company money moving forward.
