Did you know that selling pets is illegal in many Colorado cities? Fort Collins is the most recent city to enforce a pet sale ban in 2024. The ban led to the closure of the pet store Pet City, which largely profited from pet sales.
Denver Becomes the Latest City to Ban Pet Sales
Another city is joining Fort Collins and other Colorado cities to ban pet sales. That city would be Denver. According to KDVR, Denver has officially banned pet sales as of September 15.

What the Ban Means for Colorado Pet Owners
This means that pet stores in Denver can no longer sell pets. KDVR says that local breeders and adoption events are still an option for those looking to add a pet to their home.
Dogs, Cats, and Rabbits at the Center of the Ban
World Animal News says that the sale ban is specifically for dogs, cats, and rabbits. They also noted that no pet stores within the city sell these animals.

More Colorado Cities Could Soon Join the Ban
The city of Westminster is also contemplating a similar ban. They would join Denver, Fort Collins, Littleton, Greeley, and Aurora.
