Hugh Jackman Shaves His Head for Blackbeard Role in ‘Pan’
We're definitely intrigued by 'Pan,' the upcoming film from 'Hanna' director Joe Wright that takes the origin-story approach to the Peter Pan story and features Hugh Jackman as the infamous pirate Blackbeard. Jackman has always sacrificed for his roles, slimming down for 'Les Miserables' and taking cold showers to get into berserker mode for Wolverine, and now our first look behind the scenes of 'Pan' shows the actor is willing to shave it all off for Blackbeard.
Jackman debuted the first behind-the-scenes photo of 'Pan' on Instagram, and he sort of looks like one of those Wooly Willy toys for kids -- you know, the one where you use the magnet to move the black furry stuff around and give Wooly Willy a beard, or a mustache, or ear hair, or whatever. What's more important to note, however, is that Jackman has gone totally bald for the role, which gives him a more menacing quality than in previous films.
'Pan' stars newcomer Levi Miller in the title role, as well as Leni Zieglmeier as Wendy, Amanda Seyfried as Mary, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lilly and Garrett Hedlund as Captain James Hook. As previously mentioned, the film tells the origin story of Peter Pan, a little orphan boy who is whisked away to the magical world of Neverland. While there, he encounters all manner of excitement and danger, and starts down the path to become the legendary hero we now know as Peter Pan.
The film is slated for a July 17, 2015 release date.
