Colorado's first hemp house is currently being built in Lyons. The house is being made with hempcrete, which is a concrete substitute made with local hemp.

Chad Theis from Lyons, Colorado has built a lot of homes, but never from one made out of hemp. He's currently building the first full-size hemp house in Colorado. Chad has been studying hemp and all of the different ways to use it for years. Along with doing construction, Chad is also a CBD supplier too.

Chad is using local materials to build his hemp house. All of the hemp comes from less than 50 miles away from his place, which increases the efficiency even more.

To build the hemp house, Chad and his family are using a concrete substitute which is called hempcrete. Hempcrete is a combination of dried hemp chips, water, and lime. Hempcrete is breathable, noise-resistant, pest-resistant, mold-resistant, flood-resistant and fire-resistant according to Longmont Times Call.

Although the material costs more and the house is taking longer to build the house, Chad knows it'll be worth it in the long run. He plans to add solar panels and a geothermal heat pump, which is just making this house more and more efficient.
