Registration is continuing in Grand Junction for National Night Out 2013, scheduled to take place next Tuesday (August 6).

All Grand Junction neighborhoods that register their National Night Out events with the Grand Junction Police Department will be eligible to have an officer visit them during the event to provide safety information and answer questions. Members of the Grand Junction Fire Department will also visit neighborhoods throughout the evening.

To register, visit www.gjcity.org/NationalNightOut. The website also provides links to see which neighborhoods have registered, ideas for what to do during the event, and photo albums from previous years.

National Night Out – also known as “America’s Night Out Against Crime” – was introduced in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The program has since become an annual event, typically held on the first Tuesday of August.
