As of today, Tuesday, February 16, you can once again access the lobby at the Grand Junction Police Department.

It's been three months since you've been able to visit the Grand Junction Police Department building in person. Back on November 13, 2020, via their Facebook page, the GJPD posted "Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases within the community and the recent shift to Safer at Home – Level Orange: High Risk, City facilities will temporarily close to the public effective close of business on November 13th."

The public was encouraged to utilize the GJPD's online reporting system. The GJPD posted, "In an effort to help curb the spread of the virus and keep our community as safe as possible, we ask that if you can, please conduct your city business virtually."

Of course, as stated in the post, Grand Junction admin buildings could still be accessed by appointment.

Fast forward to today, February 16, 2021. Via Facebook, the GJPD posted the following message:

We're pleased to share that beginning Tuesday, February 16, our lobby will reopen to visitors during normal business hours: Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. While we still encourage folks to utilize our online resources whenever possible (www.gjcity.org/police), those who need to do business in person can visit our lobby for assistance. Please wear your mask and continue to stay home if you're sick. Thank you!

Sometime in the middle of the three-month closure of the facility, I found myself in a situation where I needed to file a non-emergency report with the GJPD. A very intelligent person drove through the fence at one of my properties and neglected to contact me or leave a note.

To file this report, I used the GJPD's online format. While it ultimately got the job done, it wasn't exactly a walk on the beach. The filling out of "virtual" forms isn't my cup of tea. I, for one, am glad to see the return of in-person contact with the department.

As the recent Facebook post says, should you visit the Grand Junction Police Department, please wear your mask and observe social distancing.
