Glenwood Springs Extends Face Mask Order

Glenwood Springs has extended its order that requires residents and retail workers to wear face masks in public. The extended order is in effect until May 1.

Glenwood Springs passed an order that requires residents and retail workers to wear face masks on April 7. The order went into effect on April 8 and it's now been extended.

Garfield County's stay-at-home order has been lifted and is now in the safer at home phase. According to the Post Independent, City Manager Debra Figueroa said that:

There was confusion about whether the city could extend the face-covering requirement under Governor Jared Polis's latest public health orders related to the COVID-10 pandemic. Initially, the draft order did now allow municipalities to have stricter requirements, but the final order did.

Face coverings are required in Glenwood Springs anytime you are in a place that's open to the public and in situations where people can't practice social distancing.

According to the Post Independent, the order does not require people to wear face coverings in these settings:

• You're not required to wear a face mask every time you leave your house
• You're not required to wear a face mask when you can practice social distancing

The punishment for not complying with this order in Glenwood Springs is pretty serious. The punishment includes a $1,000 fine and a year in jail for each violation.
