You may have noticed that there's a lot of wildlife around lately. When you think about our rate of deforestation, it's no surprise that animals are making their way into communities in search of food and shelter.

Here's some eco-friendly tips for Halloween:

1.  Low hanging lights have been known to get tangled around small wildlife and deer antlers alike. Especially if you live in a rural area, consider hanging your lights a little higher this year.

2.  When it comes to fake cobwebs, not only is this single-use plastic waste that isn't recyclable, but birds, rodents and other critters commonly get tangled in the webbing.

3.  Jack-o'-lanterns only last one week, so be mindful about letting your pumpkins rot as they will attract wildlife. This could lead to pet injuries, car accidents or even having the wild animal put down.

4. Uncarved pumpkins can last for months, which will last you well through Halloween and Thanksgiving. Consider painting your pumpkin this year instead of carving.

5.  Once you are finished with your pumpkin, you can bake the seeds or donate it to a local animal sanctuary; pigs love pumpkins. You can also consider composting your pumpkin, as food scraps become methane which is thirty times more potent as a heat-trapping gas than CO2.

As for me, regardless of how adorable holiday decorations can be, I make an effort to decorate with plants as the waste is low, most are edible and, well-- I love plants.
