Hours after Governor Polis made the statement, "it's only a matter of time" before we have our first Coronavirus death in Colorado, an 80-year-old woman in El Paso County has passed away from the illness.

Late Friday afternoon (March 13) the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said the 80-year-old woman, who had underlying health issues, was the first infected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) to die.

Governor Polis shared this tweet giving his condolences:

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment executive director told the Denver Channel,

“We care deeply about our older Coloradans and people who have chronic diseases, this is an all-hands-on-deck effort to slow the spread and support people during these trying times. We know Coloradans will do whatever it takes to help protect those at risk of getting very sick.”
