According to District 51's Superintendent Diana Sirko, face masks are required for all District 51 students in the 4th to 12th grade.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed a lot of things, including the back to school date for Mesa County District 51. District 51 was set to make an announcement about the school year today, July 21, but the date has been moved to Tuesday, July 28. According to the Communications Specialist at D51, the announcement will answer questions about the classroom, recess, lunchtime, school bus protocol, and more.

Here's what we know about the school year so far. The back to school date has been pushed back to August 17th. Preschool will open on August 24th and kindergarten will be open on August 19th.

District 51 told us that they'll be doing face to face learning as long as there's not stay at home order and that there will be an option fo virtual learning. Face masks are required for kids 11 and older, according to District 51.

There is still a lot up in the air and we're sure that parents have lots of questions. District 51's announcement about the protocol for the school year including classroom, recess, lunchtime and school bus protocol, is coming on Tuesday, July 28th.

The Board of Education special meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Orchard Mesa Middle School. You can find the latest information from District 51 on their website or their Facebook.
