Underpaid, underappreciated, and absolutely vital to every part of our society, teachers! Teachers in the Douglas County School District are taking collective action on Thursday, February 3 to have their voices on the needs of our children, their students heard.

This action is being organized after Monday's public meeting announced that 4 of the 7 board members want Superintendent Corey Wise to resign. Corey Wise has been with Douglas County Schools for 25 years. He became superintendent last year.

The four members that want him out are the same four members that joined together and ran on a conservative "Kids First" platform to get elected. They are flexing their majority vote. The other board members are concerned that the superintendent was improperly and possibly unlawfully threatened with termination.

After reading comments and posts on several public Facebook pages in Parker and Castle Rock, there is no doubt, a divide. The same divide we see over so many things right now.

In a few posts, I found the number near 1400 for teachers who plan to attend tomorrow. There were also posts praising the teachers who would've stayed at school to teach during the day. Lots of posts expressed concern over the state of the Douglas County School District.

What I know, is that teachers just want to teach. Teachers' jobs have become incredibly difficult and stressful through the pandemic.

The Douglas County School District sent this email to parents Wednesday afternoon:

we have a large number of staff who have submitted absences for tomorrow, Thursday, February 3. As a result, we have reached the point where the number of absences has impacted our ability to provide a safe and supervised learning environment for students.
