Did You Know This About Garden Of The Gods?
If traffic is good, you can make it from Northern Colorado to Garden of Gods in a little over 2 hours. It's on the west side of Colorado Springs. On a recent visit with my dog and my daughter and her friend, we discovered a couple of things worth sharing.
It's free to access Garden of Gods now and it always will be.
Over a 100 years ago, the children of the original landowner Charles Elliott Perkins handed his four-hundred eighty acres over to the City of Colorado Springs as long as they followed a few rules. It was to be known forever as the Garden of the Gods "where it shall remain free to the public, where no intoxicating liquors shall be manufactured, sold, or dispensed, where no building or structure shall be erected except those necessary to properly care for, protect, and maintain the area as a public park."
As you explore the park you cannot help but watch climbers in full gear repelling down the powerful rock steeples. Turns out this is encouraged in certain areas with a permit and correct gear.
