Man, all I got for my birthday was a coupon to the Olive Garden.

In a difficult time in history, any shred of light is welcome, and this story is a big blast of sunshine. Gertie Abkes, a Denver resident who lives in the Clermont Park Life Plan Community said that all she wanted for her 108th birthday was 108 birthday cards. Easy enough.

According to The Denver Channel, Gertie is an avid Denver Broncos fan and believes that people shouldn't give in to hate. "I love all people," she said in a press release that was sent out by the assisted living facility, which asked Colorado residents to send her a card. Again, the goal was a simple 108, but Abkes got much more than she bargained for.

Abkes ended up receiving over 500 birthday cards from the public, and the assisted living facility said that this is a birthday that Abkes will never forget.
