That Helicopter Overhead Isn’t Spying on You
To reassure you before you get weirded-out about an unknown helicopter overhead, they are checking something out, but it is not you.
The helicopter is flying around to inspect the power lines that supply electricity to Delta, Montrose, Cedaredge and other areas serviced by Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA).
In order to make an accurate visual and thermal imaging inspection, the helicopter has to fly at a low altitude which can cause some concern. That's not surprising if you don't know why the chopper is around in the first place.
DMEA says the inspection will start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday (July 12) in Montrose. Other areas being inspected include Delta, Surface Creek, Cedaredge, and North Fork Valley.
The aerial inspection is part of DMEA's maintenance program and is designed to identify potential problems along much of their three thousand miles of power lines. This allows the company to take action before a power outage occurs.
