Colorado Springs Man Kills Mom’s Cat, Thought About Killing Mom
A man in Colorado Springs killed his mom's cat because he said he thought it'd be easier to kill an animal than a person.
A woman reported finding her cat dead in her son's bedroom, according to Animal Law Enforcement Sgt. Joseph Langford. The woman's son, 18-year-old Cohen Heath, was arrested for killing his own mom's cat.
According to KKTV, Cohen told the officer that he originally thought about killing a friend of his, who was staying at his house at the time. Then the 18-year-old told authorities he thought about killing his mom. He decided to kill his mom because it 'would be easier to kill an animal' than a person.
Cohen put the poor kitty inside a bag and stabbed it to death in a storm drain. According to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Cohen then mutilated the cat's body 'so he could keep mementos.'
The sergeant found fur and blood on Cohen's knives from the cat. Cohen was arrested and is facing a felony charge -- one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Cohen's punishment for killing his mom's cat could include the following, according to KKTV and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region:
- A fine between $1,000 and $100,000
- One year mandatory parole and mandatory confinement or home detention
- Which could last between 90 days and 18 months
I'm not sure how Cohen could ever make this up to his mom. Animals are family too and I don't know what I'd do if someone killed one of my furbabies. Hopefully, Cohen will get the help that he clearly needs.
