Since the real home opener isn't possible, the Rockies are having a big virtual baseball game and raising funds for Colorado food banks.

It sounds like the team has been working hard on this since there was even a thought of not having the home opener game versus the Padres.

9News has the story on how AT&T Sportsnet will be broadcasting a different kind of Rockies game on Friday afternoon (April 3, 2020) starting at 2 p.m.

The game will include nine innings of Rockies baseball, with great highlights from their archive along with past and present players and coaches making commentary during the broadcast. There'll even be a seventh-inning stretch. It sounds like a lot of fun in lieu of actually playing.

During the game, they'll be raising funds for Colorado and Wyoming food banks, including the Food Bank for Larimer County and the Weld Food Bank. The Rockies Club Foundation will be matching all donations up to $300,000.

No, it won't be like being sitting at Coors Field, but the forecast is calling for a high of 44° with rain, so that wouldn't have been a TON of fun, anyway.
