A pair of Colorado mountain goats were shot and killed last week and it just makes me mad as a hornet.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the two male goats were shot in the head July 3 near the summit of Quandary Peak south of Breckenridge.

The poachers responsible for these killings could face jail time and fines over $20,000 per animal. Officials are asking for the public help in locating these suspects. The Quandary trail is well-traveled and so it is quite possible someone has information that could help. A $5000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.

I must clarify that mountain goats can be legally hunted in September and October. But, killing them in July is felony poaching, and I get angry whenever I hear about the misconduct of people when it comes to wildlife. I can't even call these people hunters, because they do not deserve the respect of that title.

To randomly, maliciously, and illegally kill Colorado wildlife is despicable. It demonstrates a serious lack of respect for our state and its wildlife and ecosystem. I also believe it shows a great lack of self-respect as well.

These animals were viciously and needlessly killed for absolutely no purpose. We can only hope and pray this villainous individual or individuals will be caught and brought to justice.
