Colorado High School Coach Accused of Sexual Assault on a Minor
A Colorado high school basketball coach has been arrested and is being charged with sexual assault by a person of trust on a 16-year-old girl.
The man, 31-year-old George Pollard, is the head coach for District 11's Doherty High School girls' basketball team in Colorado Springs. He is also a paraprofessional for Academy District 20 and a volunteer for the Pluto Basketball Club, both also based in the Colorado Springs area.
The initial report came to the Colorado Springs Police Department on June 10th, 2021, alleging that Pollard had sexually assaulted the 16-year-old girl. However, School District 20 has said that the incident does not involve any students or staff in said district, but it does not appear that District 11 has ruled that out. Regardless, Pollard has been placed on administrative leave from both District 11 and District 20 and has been suspended from the basketball club.
According to an investigation conducted by the Crimes Against Children Unit, the inappropriate and criminal sexual activity between Pollard and the 16-year-old girl had been taking place for several months before authorities were contacted.
Once authorities were made aware of the allegations against Pollard, a warrant was issued for the head coach's arrest, after which Pollard turned himself in and was subsequently arrested.
Authorities are currently investigating the allegations against Pollard with regard to the 16-year-old girl, as well as looking into the possibility that there may be more victims of the suspended coach and volunteer.
Police are encouraging anyone with any information regarding the allegations against Pollard to reach out to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
