In a mostly male-dominated industry, Care Flight in Montrose boasts the region's first all-female flight crew.

Esther Babcock, Elisabeth Abel, and Becky Sproul, who have nicknamed themselves the Broad Squad are highly trained professionals and are quite proud of their accomplishment.

Babcock, the pilot, was a helicopter pilot in Hawaii and is a Colorado native who is proud and pleased to be back home, making a difference. Joining her on the crew is Becky Sproul, a flight care medic who had previously served in a similar capacity with a large city crew and Elisabeth Abel, flight nurse.

The women take their jobs very seriously and are all highly trained.

The fact that women make up only 5% of all of the aviation industry and only 2% of helicopter pilots make this crew even more impressive.

The other positive? According to Abel, "When you’re flying three girls, that means your flight load is lighter!”

Being an inspiration to and role models for all women are something the crew takes very seriously. And we on the Western Slope are indeed fortunate to have them here.
