Watch Out For This Apple ID Email Scam Going Around Colorado

Some days it feels like the entire world is trying to scam you. Be it a scam phone call, email, or even text message almost daily. These emails and texts typically give you a reason to click on a link to take you either to a place to pay a fine that doesn't actually exist or to try and get you to use your log-in so that they can steal it from you and access your personal information. This particular email seems to give you a computer virus and/or steal your personal Apple information, so do not click on anything if you get this.

Apple ID Email Scam

I got this email this morning on my Townsquare Media email, here's what it said...

Hello,

The following information for your apple ID was updated recently:

Shipping and/or billing address
Credit card

If the changes were made in error, or if you believe an unauthorized person accessed your account, please reset your account password immediately by going to iforgot.apple.com.

To review and update your security settings, sign in to appleid.apple.com.

This is an automated message. Please do not reply to this email. If you need additional help, visit Apple Support.

Thanks,
Apple Customer Support

Not only is it full of typos, but it also doesn't have my name or any other information about me specifically... And here's the main tip-off, it was sent to my work email, and not my iCloud email. My Apple account doesn't even have this email on file. The note was full of hyperlinks to try and get me to click to install the virus or steal my login info as seen in the picture below...

How To Avoid Scammer Emails

Sometimes these scam emails are really well done, but there are almost always tells. Did it come to an email associated with the account? Do they call you by your legal name? Is the email address it came from legit, or is it long and full of dashes or misspellings? When in doubt, google the email address or headline. You'll almost always see that others have reported the same scam email or text you've googled. Sadly, these kinds of scams fool thousands of people daily. Particularly younger and older people so make sure you educate them. When in doubt, just don't click anything and delete it.
