The Grand Junction Police Department recently completed a multi-day sex offender compliance and verification check.

Over the course of the days, 231 compliance checks were conducted, and 11 offenders were found to be in violation. The unannounced house visits were conducted by the Grand Junction Police Department, along with the Colorado Department of Corrections Parole Division, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Every year, compliance checks are conducted to make sure those convicted of sex offenses are in compliance with state laws. The goal is to identify the offender, verify their registration, and confirm their address and place of employment. Failing to register is one possible violation. An offender found to be in violation may be further investigated by officers, and may incur warrants for failing to register.

Some offenders receive multiple checks throughout the year to help ensure there is continued compliance. This is one-way local law enforcement personnel are able to keep a check on sex offenders who have been released into the community.

If you have questions or concerns about possible sex offenders in your neighborhood, you can check out the Sex Offender Registry website. You can search for sex offenders in your neighborhood ad sign up for email notifications if an offender should move to your neighborhood.
