On day one of free agency, in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Andre Benoit to a one-year deal on Friday. The 29-year-old who finally earned a spot in the NHL last season with Ottawa had 10 points in limited playing time on the blue-line.

Last night the Colorado Avalanche made a trade with the Calgary Flames, sending David Jones and Shane O’Brien to the Flames for Cory Sairch and Alex Tanguay. The deal brings the 33-year-old Tanguay back to the city where he started his career. Drafted by the Avalanche in first round (12th overall) in 1998, Tanguay played his first six seasons for Colorado before being traded to the Flames in June
