The 10th Annual Summit Challenge Sled Dog Race on the Grand Mesa highlights our Western Colorado weekend.

The annual event will take place Saturday and Sunday (Jan 30,31) at the Mesa Top Trail Parking lot on highway 65 over the Grand Mesa.

This race is the highest sled dog race in the country at an elevation of 10,500 feet with races of four, six, or eight miles in length.

Various dogs are used in the races from traditional Huskies to Pointers in teams of four to eight dogs pulling sleds.

They also do skijoring, in which one to three dogs pull cross country skiers.

The races start at 8AM, with the last race finishing up around 2:00PM.

The Rocky Mountain Sled Dog Club puts on events like this every year across the state.
