‘Selfie’ Finally Makes It Into Dictionary, Plus 149 Other New Words

It was bound to happen sooner or later, the newly created word 'selfie' has made it's way into the dictionary, plus 149 other words, many of which are related to today's growing technology and the internet.

The dictionary just got thicker and heavier with the 2014 new additions, and without the internet many of these words would not exist.Here are some of the other new words that have been added to Merriam-Webster's new Collegiate Dictionary.

1. Hashtag
2.Hot Spot - as in WiWi hot spot
3.Crowdfunding - raising money through specially constructed websites
4.E-waste
5.Social networking
6.Spoiler alert

Then there are some new words like baby bump and fracking that have nothing to do with the internet. Have you heard any of the new words below being used?

Freegan - This is a person who scavenges for free food in trash cans at restaurants and stores with the intent of reducing consumption of resources.
Gamification -  adding game elements to something that isn't a game in order to get people interested.
Turducken - a boneless chicken stuffed into a boneless duck, stuffed into a boneless turkey.

I'm all for expanding my vocabulary, but I don't expect to being using the word 'turducken' in a sentence any time soon nor do I expect to eat it in this lifetime.
