The annual Salvation Army Thanksgiving Day dinner will be served on Thursday at the Elks Lodge at 249 South 4th Street. They say nothing is free, but believe it or not, this is.Who said there's no free lunch? The fact is, there is, and this is it.

It's probably true that most people gather with family or friends for a big Thanksgiving dinner. But, it may be surprising how many people don't do this.

Things happen. Other family members may be traveling out of state, or have invites with friends. It may be that a couple does not have any immediate family in town with which they could gather, and they are alone.

There are people who traditionally by-pass the headache and hassle of preparing a huge feast and simply go out to a restaurant on Thanksgiving Day. Great idea, except that to take a family of four to a Thanksgiving Day buffet  is probably going to set you back one entire Ben Franklin. Who can afford to do that?

And, of course, there is the homeless contingent that have no place to go for Thanksgiving and no financial resources to go buy a meal.

The Salvation Army Thanksgiving Day meal is for anyone and everyone who wants to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings, but can't afford one, or who doesn't have someone to share it with.

The meal is served from 11am-1pm at the Elks Lodge in Grand Junction. For further information or for delivery to shut-ins the Salvation Army may be reached by phone at 242-7513.
