Anyone who's ever frequented a library has probably been faced with overdue book fines. In most cases, they're a few dollars at the most. For Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones those those overdue book fines may be in the thousands of dollars.Richards admits he borrowed and didn't return books to the Dartford Library and he may owe about 50 years worth of fines. According to a story published in the Mirror, Richards says as a teenager he was a bit of a bookworm and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of the library.

“To me it was a place where you get a hint there was somewhere called civilization. It was the only place where I would willingly obey the laws, like silence. It was somewhere I could find out about things I was interested in.”

While the library hasn't determined exactly how much the fines should be, The Mirror estimates they could be in excess of $4,500.  Meanwhile, the U.K. tabloid The Sun says the fines are probably closer to $30,000.

Let's hope Richards returns the books, if he can find them after 50 years, or at the very least pays his fines and the cost to replace the books. I'm sure money's not going to be an issue.
