It looks like today may be the last decent day for golf for a while. Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately I had the chance to get out this week to enjoy the Western Colorado sunshine.  I figured it up –I have played about 50 rounds of golf this year. I can’t complain about that. It’s a good amount. But, isn’t it a reasonable, logical conclusion that a guy who plays that many rounds of golf would be better at the end of the year rather than worse?

How is it that something that looks so simple on television can be so frustratingly difficult to master? Now, I’m not trying to be Tiger Woods – or anything like that. And I think I could die happy even if I never shot a round of golf at even par. All I am hoping for is to be able to go out and hit the ball reasonably well a majority of the time – rather than once in a while. Is that too much to ask?

Many of you who are golfers can relate to this. How can it be that you can go out on a given day, hit the ball really well, maybe even get a nice score, and have thoughts like  "FINALLY, I’ve  got it figured out!” --only to go out the very next time and it seems as though you’ve never hit a golf ball in  your life?

How is it that a person- after watching scores of instructional videos and reading countless golf tips in various golf magazines – can go out to the golf course time after time and consistently shoot inconsistently?

And here is another question. How is it that a person can go out to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls – and hit most  of them reasonably well,  yet, when actually playing a round of golf, the person that hit those good balls at the range is nowhere to be found?

Why is it that many of use who love the game so much, but yet are constantly and insanely frustrated by it continue to put ourselves through such torture? What is wrong with us? What is it that makes us think that THIS time will be any different than any other time we have been out only to be disappointed by the results we produce?

These are just a few of golf’s unanswerable questions. Perhaps you have some of your own – and we would all love to hear them. And if you happen to have any of the answers,  I will gladly receive them and mark the corresponding question off the list of unanswerables.
