There has been a pedestrian/vehicle accident near 2155 Broadway that has resulted in a fatality. The road is closed in both directions while the investigation is taking place. According to KREX-TV:

  • Coroner is on scene, along with multiple Colorado State Patrol troopers, Mesa County Sheriff's Office, Grand Junction Police Dept. and Colorado Dept. of Transportation. Both directions of Broadway are shut down until further notice.

This is the second fatality today regarding a car. The first one involved a car falling on a man that was working under it.

It happened just before 6 p.m. this on Broadway/Hwy. 340 and Greenwood Drive, just outside Grand Junction city limits.

An official with Colorado State Patrol says the pedestrian is a white male in his 50s. He was attempting to cross the street at Broadway and Greenwood Drive from the north to the south side of the road, when a minivan traveling eastbound struck the man.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation, however officials do not suspect foul play.

Both directions of Broadway were shut down for about four hours during investigation and accident clean-up.

Identification of the pedestrian is pending notification of next of kin.
